I'm Feeling Lucky Problem Fix for OpenDNS users

OpenDNS is great service as providing safer and faster surfing experience for web users. However when it comes, it brings a big headache for Firefox and Flock users. You can't use I'm Feeling Lucky searches in address bar any more after registering OpenDNS. I have created an extension that will fix this problem in seconds for Firefox and Flock.

Install the extension, restart your browser and bring I'm Feeling Lucky searches back to your Firefox and Flock.

Hope it helps. Enjoy!

  2. Nice...but changing keyword.url in about:config to the I'm feeling lucky url doesnt work. Regular google results only. Better than the opendns results though.

  4. Thanks for commenting @weetawdid. You don't need to change keyworl.url in about:config. Anyway the keyword.url should be in default value.

  6. Extension works for general. Maybe your Firefox is problematic or some other extension spoilt down your settings. If you dont provide any information I cant help you.

Users having problem: Please provide your operating system name and firefox version while commenting so that I can try to create a workaround for your case.

  7. Currently this extension simply makes the address bar perform a regular google search, instead of the annoying opendns search. How do I make it perform an I'm Feeling Lucky search?

  8. Feeling Lucky fixer does not perform a Google search but I'm Feeling Lucky search. Let me clear the case for you.

I'm Feeling Lucky search of Firefox is a bit different than the I'm Feeling Lucky button of Google.com.

When you type a keyword (say yahoo) in address bar and press Return, the keyword is sent to Google by Firefox for an I'm Feeling Lucky search. At this point Google search algorithm checks the keyword and if it finds a suitable site for the keyword (e.g. yahoo.com for yahoo keyword) the user is redirected to matched site (in this case yahoo.com). But if the Google search algorthm does not find a suitable match in the database for the keyword, then the user is redirected to a related Google search page of the keyword.

So whether you get a site or search page after a keyword submission in address bar of Firefox is not dependent on neither Feeling Lucky Fixer nor Firefox but Google.

Feeling Lucky Fixer only prevent OpenDNS interventions and restores that functionality of Firefox which sends the keywords to Google for an I'm Feeling Lucky search.

Sorry for late response. I was too busy the last week. Yes the problem is caused by OpenDNS. Now they have fixed the problem and everything should work fine.

  15. Hello Nathan. I have a Mac and chance to figure out what is going on at Mac side. On Windows operating systems everything is fine. Could you detail your problem please? What happens and which page you get when you use keywords in location bar.

  16. For the most part when I type in a URL it goes to the guide.opendns.com/blah blah blah page. Basically doing the search through openDNS.

I am typing things like "apple" or "costco" or "nike". There is no error or warning.. its just bringing up the openDNS site.

I am running 10.6.1 and have FF 3.5.3. I have also deleted and reinstalled the "IFLF" add-on and also turned off all other add-ons and only left the "I'm Feeling lucky fixer" on. Neither gave me a desirable result.

I checked my laptop and it seems to work (10.6.1 and FF 3.5.3) so I am not sure why my Mac Pro is still acting weird.

  17. Any Mac user having problem about OpenDNS Guide page, please install Feeling Lucky Fixer version 2.0 from my site. Although I have sent the new version to Mozilla it may take some weeks to appear on that site.

  18. Yea I'm on a macbook pro 10.6.1, firefox 3.5.3 and it only works for some sites. When I type apple it sends me to google maps with apple store location. However if you type apple on google.com and press I'm feeling lucky button, google sends me to apple.com
