If you are the one searching a solution for frustrating OpenDNS problem which redirects your keywords that you type in location bar to an odd OpenDNS search page rather than to desired site, you are on the right track to fix the problem and to bring I'm Feeling Lucky searches back to your Firefox and Flock.
I have created a plug 'n play extension to fix the problem in seconds. No technical detail no dirty code. Just install it, restart your browser and continue your fun.
You may also want to install the extension from official Firefox addon site Feeling Lucky Fixer page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7993).
Compatible with both Firefox and Flock.
Hope it helps. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteYou are probably using older version. I have updated the extension and you should reinstall the extension from this page. If you install from official Mozilla addon page (link is above below install button) you will get the next updates automatically.
ReplyDeletewill try that. using firefox 3 on latest ubuntu.
ReplyDeletetried both linked above and moz addon site. Neither seem to work in FF3 on ubuntu. it is likely the FF3 from the ubuntu repos, which seems to have issues.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. Probably there is a network problem on Ubuntu. But the problem isn't related to Feeling Lucky Fixer extension. It works flawlessly in Windows. Although this an Ubuntu os issue, I will search a fix for the problem. Please check this topic frequently for Ubuntu solution.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work for me on Windows XP with Firefox v3.0.1
ReplyDeleteBecause you are the only one having problem on Windows XP, it is high probably that some other extension spoilt down your settings. Or there is a problem on your Firefox copy. Please give me some detail. When you type a search keyword in location bar and press Enter, does query takes you OpenDNS search page or not?
ReplyDeleteBy the way I have created a solution for Ubuntu users and it will be available soon.
Thank you so much for this fix...the whole OpenDNS search page thing was so annoying I was about to go back to evil IE, or even...gasp...safari.
ReplyDeleteHello. Because of having been developing Google Redesigned, creating the solution for Linux users delayed a bit. I am sorry for that. I have updated the extension and Linux users can benefit the fix.
ReplyDeleteHi this is a great tool, thanks; using it with OpenDNS.
ReplyDeleteThere's one major bug. Sometimes when a malformed URL is requested by a site, the plugin seems to redirect you to that particular resource's "feeling lucky" search.
Example: go to Dean's IE7.js page (not the Google Code one).
http://dean.edwards.name/weblog/2008/01/ie7-2/
Notice it redirects to the lucky search for a missing favicon every time? This doesn't happen with the plugin disabled. FF3, Mac.
Thank you very much @Chris for your feedback. I will try to create a fix for the bug.
ReplyDeleteExtension updated for the bug fix. I have tested this new version on Windows and Linux. Mac users, report back the outcome please.
ReplyDeleteWorking great on Ubuntu, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI was excited to see this extension since everything else has failed to work. However, the extension didn't work for me as of 26 Oct 08. Everything i do is redirected to OpenDNS and it is driving me crazy!
ReplyDeleteHello Craig. Please provide your operating system name and firefox version so that I can try to create a workaround for your case.
ReplyDeleteGreat tool. Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteWorks great with Firefox 3 on my new MacBook! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe extension does not work under Windows 7 x64 and Firefox 3.0.7
ReplyDeleteguide.opendns.com is still used instead of the I feel Lucky feature of the Awesomebar.
ReplyDeleteVersion 1.6 released Panajev. Please try that version.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Version 1.6 works as planned :), Firefox 3.0.7 on Windows 7 x64 has its AwesomeBar being awesome again!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to confirm that with:
ReplyDeleteMozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030503 Fedora/3.0.7-1.fc10 Firefox/3.0.7
(Fedora 10, 32 bit, KDE 4.2.1)
the extension works as advertised :).
Great extension!
Good job, but there is one thing that doesn't work in the awsome bar: special letters like å, ä and ö. (Vital to all Swedes)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to an update!
Doesn't work with 3.5 Beta 4 :(
ReplyDeleteAn update been released for Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 users.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I have contacted to the user who reported Swedes problem. Actually it is not caused by Feeling Lucky Fixer but OpenDNS. OpenDNS does not support UTF-8 characters so Swedes users get problem when the keyword contains Swedes characters. The problem needs to be fixed by OpenDNS side. So users having this problem need to send a bug report to OpenDNS.
ReplyDeleteit works on 3.5.2 but cannot be installed in 3.6a1
ReplyDeleteIt seems like it no longer works in 3.5.3
ReplyDeleteIt does not work for the newest update of Firefox! Hope you update the add-on soon.
ReplyDeleteHello. You need to send the information of which Operating System you use. On Windows it is working fine. I do not know what is not working for you. Please describe the problem in detail.
ReplyDeleteAny Mac user having problem about OpenDNS Guide page, please install Feeling Lucky Fixer version 2.0 from my site. Although I have sent the new version to Mozilla it may take some weeks to appear on that site.
ReplyDeleteBe great if you could make this compatible with Seamonkey 2 as well as Firefox!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. It just works in my Mac!
ReplyDeleteI know you haven't officially supported Firefox 4 Betas yet. Feeling Lucky Fixer version 2.1 worked without any problems on the latest Firefox 4 beta 7 and latest Nightly Build Firefox 4b9pre. Since, the update to Feeling Lucky Fixer 2.2, Feeling Lucky Fixer Options Windows is "Resized" incorrectly, so only the its Titlebar is visible on Firefox 4 Beta 7 and latest Nightly Build of Firefox 4b9pre.
ReplyDeleteNote: I'm using WinXP
Feeling Lucky Fixer was an alternative to using the "Browse By Name" extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/222531/ , on Firefox 4 betas until version Feeling Lucky Fixer 2.2. You may want to leave older versions Feeling Lucky Fixer available on AMO site, so user can still have access to it.
